New Lurssen's project - Megayacht VITRUVIUS.
Bremen. Vitruvius – a brand new design project developed by Philippe
Briand and Lurssen Yachts.
Philippe Briand who has mainly concentrated in the past on sailing
yachts, has drawn a very innovative 180’
motor yacht, which at first glance gives the impression to be a
sailing yacht. In co-operation with Lurssen, this new project has
been presented for the first time at the Monaco
Yacht Show 2005.
The boat is built in Alustar - a material superior in strength
to aluminum. The total focus of the architect on efficiency has
led to an extraordinary optimization of the required propulsion
power. The yacht reaches top speed at more than 20 knots and has
a very comfortable cruising speed of 18 knots.
The boat’s fuel
consumption is half that of a conventional yacht of identical
size. Her range, as a consequence, is as far as 4000 miles at 15
knots;
more than enough to cross an ocean.

Vitruvius
is an ocean going vessel. She is powerful but remains totally
manageable.
The owner can easily take command, as the best spot on the boat
has been chosen for the wheel station. From the flying bridge,
he has 360° vision. Steering this exceptional vessel, he will
truly garner the respect of the universe.
The salon, the cockpit area and the aft terrace flow together
in a spacious area of 8.5 m wide by 18 m long. Under a tropical
sun, a shaded area opens up to the guests. Under a breeze, the
translucent sides of the salon accommodate easy living in a protected
setting but still provide the feeling of being outside.
 For
the owners’ comfort, his spacious suite has been located midships
and fills the total width of the yacht. The result is a master
suite of exceptional dimensions where one is always at ease during
crossings. The boat easily accommodates 10 guests in very comfortable
and luxurious surroundings.

The guests are at all times close to the water and can experience
its freshness in total safety. The sunbathing area and the plunge
pool on the front deck provide an excellent spot to relax. All
the desirable toys are readily accessible on board. Tender, jet
skis, water skis and even a laser can be stored in the garage.

The yacht is efficient and its drag minimal. This
results from a displacement well below 400 t and a low windage.
The whole design
is geared on this aerodynamic feature. The superstructure is streamlined
and reduced to three decks (lower deck, main deck, flying bridge).
The vertical center of gravity has been radically lowered: this
has allowed the designer to reduce the surface of stabilizers –
a step which additionally reduces drag.
