Amels concentrates yacht building in Vlissingen.
In the year 2000, Amels
Holland took over a part of the impressive shipbuilding
facilities of the Royal Schelde Group in Vlissingen. This move was
a very welcome and necessary addition to the existing new-build
and repair capacity for superyachts in Makkum. Since that time,
Amels Schelde has gone through a rapid development. A sizeable number
of new yachts from 52m to 62m have been very successfully built
and delivered at the Amels Schelde yard.
In comparison with the yard in Makkum, the shipyard in Vlissingen
offers many advantages, such as the two very large covered dry docks,
with a direct connection to open sea. The Vlissingen facility also
offers exciting possibilities for expansion. Taking this into consideration,
the owners of Amels Holland, the Damen Shipyards Group, have decided
to concentrate all yacht building activities in Vlissingen. This
concentration will also benefit the desired efficiency improvements
and cost savings.
Furthermore the Amels sales organisation and supporting departments
will also be based in Vlissingen, thereby consolidating all activities
in one location, which should prove to be a great benefit to our
clients. Management of the newly structured facilities will be primarily
focused on the optimal yacht building process whereby cooperation
with partner-yards, subcontractors and suppliers is developed to
an even higher degree than today to assure that all specialized
disciplines are carried out at the highest quality level.
At this moment the Amels order book shows four large new-builds:
Amels 68.50 m, design Wahlter Franchini, delivery 2006,
Amels 58.00 m, design Andrew
Winch, delivery 2007,
Amels 64.50 m, design Terence
Disdale, delivery 2007,
Amels 52.00 m, design Tim
Heywood, delivery 2007.
plus three existing yachts, which are undergoing important refit
work and major conversion.
